check out this months Bike and the letters page I have only gone and made the lead letter That should be a set of tyres and a years subscription
They have edited it somewhat it was all about the new wave of electronics on bikes and should have read . . .
After reading a number of articles and letters about abs and traction control, I need to forward my two penneth.
I have been riding on the road for 28 years and have learnt my craft on many varied bikes, advancing my skills as tech got better. I like to think I have a feel for the road and how the bike is working under me. For some time I have thought that riders learning on new machines have not been able to fully assimilate machine handling skills on the road as modern bikes don't misbehave unless doing big speeds or ridden in the extreme. The window of control has got smaller, electronics can only compound this. The new trend of dumbing down the rider and relying on a computer to help you out is all well and good, but what happens when they go wrong ? I have worked in the aerospace industry and have had to rectify faults with autopilots where the electronics force the plane to fly in an uncommanded way. Ask Toyota whether electronics are faultless ! Bikes operate in an extreme environment of vibration, water and temperature. None is good for complex electronics. Do you trust the electronics to have total control of your throttle and brakes? I like my hands and feet to do the control. I can see the safety aspects but don't see the fun, for me a major reason to ride is the control I have of over 180 bhp. Yes I ride a modified ZZR1400. We will see riders riding bikes like a computer game twisting the throttle like a switch and braking with abandon, the electronics are good but not foolproof; accidents will happen. Either I am getting old and the classic bike beckons or I may be onto something . . .
The editing took out some contentious stuff what ya think
